Underlying principles
The fundamental principles which guide my work are as follows. I aim:
- To create a working relationship that is collaborative in nature.
- To provide a confidential, non-judgmental, empathetic environment where trust can be built and exploration can begin.
- To avoid using jargon or "psychobabble" and to be human, real and, above all, useful.
- To be supportive of clients when difficult feelings emerge.
- To facilitate growth and development in a non-threatening, yet stimulating and challenging, way.
- To help clients to draw on their own resources and tap into their creativity.
- To encourage individuals to think about their problems in a new and more empowering way.
- To increase self-confidence and independence.
